Euthanasia Services

Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is never easy. At Grand Valley Animal Hospital, we are committed to ensuring their final moments are filled with love, compassion, and dignity. Our goal is to support you through this emotional and challenging decision-making process.

What to Expect at the Appointment

When you arrive at the clinic, please call us to notify us of your arrival. Alternatively, if you’re unable to reach us by phone, feel free to come inside without your pet. To ensure a peaceful environment, we allow up to three people to be present for the procedure.

If you prefer a more private space, please let us know and we can arrange a room with a separate exit away from the lobby for your comfort.

Step-by-Step Process

1. Initial Consultation and Payment

We’ll begin by explaining the procedure in simple terms and answer any questions you may have.

At this time, we will ask if you would like to take your pet home for burial or have them cremated. We offer the following options for cremation services:

Individual Cremation: Your pet’s ashes are returned to you.

Mass Cremation: Your pet is cremated with other pets, and no ashes are returned.

Once we are aware of your choice, we’ll also handle the financial matters of the appointment at this time so that you do not have to worry about that aspect after the procedure is complete.

If you prefer not to stay for the entire procedure, we completely understand and support your decision. You are welcome to leave whenever you feel comfortable, before or after the sedation, knowing that we will ensure your pet is comfortable throughout the process.

2. Preparation

Depending on your pet’s health and condition, an IV catheter may be placed. Once you and your pet are ready, the veterinarian will administer pre-euthanasia sedation to ensure your pet is relaxed.

3. Euthanasia Procedure

After your pet is fully asleep, the euthanasia solution will be administered. You might observe natural bodily reactions such as slight stretching, agonal breath, or urination/defecation, all of which are normal and not indicators of distress. The veterinarian will confirm your pet’s passing by listening to their heart.

4. Final Goodbyes

Once the procedure is complete, our team will welcome you to spend as much time as you need to say your final goodbyes.

Those we have loved never go away, they walk beside us every day. Our deepest sympathy in your time of loss.
